System Design and Implementation:

With the rate at which technology changes over the life cycle of a product, it is best when considering additional resources to have an experienced partner on your side. Most of our customers know their industry very well and, like them, we know our industry very well, and it is with 20 years of insight we help design and implement a system that will provide for the current needs and be scalable for the future. There is so much to consider in system design and purpose, and when dedicated people come together with a common goal, the success rate of a newly adopted technology is inspiring.

Demonstration:

One very good reason to have a professional demonstration of an application or product is to see how that product will function once the new user is up-to-speed. Many facilities will not have the time to allocate to a new platform, or application, and will fall back on the current ways of doing things, even though they are well aware of the features and benefits of the new product. A demonstration address their specific concerns, but at the same time provides a realistic assessment of how that product will function in their work-flow.

Training:

There are plenty of reasons to get more training. Most application specialists use only the tools they have learned get the job at hand done. Very few learn different work-flow processes, and this leads to lowered production, restlessness and greater turnover.
Many professionals and small business owners haven't the time to leave the business for a few day to take advantage of the learning opportunities that are available in their field.

Addressing the Needs of the Whole Learner:

Realism is the name of the game for Orion's center for learning and media services. Recognizing the need for multi-faceted training in the mid-80s, Orion integrated Information Technology has provided on-site training to meet the immediate needs that face many production specialists; though a multiple day class is probably best taken off-site because it lessens the chance for distraction. In those cases where the client's data is the best case scenario, it benefits the client to have the trainer come to their facility because not only will they receive the training needed but the trainer/consultant may bring a refreshing view to the work-flow procedure.
Corporate learning in organizations are looking for deep, long-term consultative partnerships with education/training providers. Training staff responsible for development within these companies, usually do not have a formal selection process to identify potential providers. We help each organization develop their base-line competency level and then educate people to get them to that line.
At the end of the day, developing a relationship with a qualified and helpful trainer gives the student and facility a contact to call personally when in need of information or expertise outside their "zone", someone to bounce ideas off of and actually get credible feedback.

Best practices:

Interested in developing a relationship with a realistic learning environment? Here are some of Orion's tips for doing it right:

Be an industry partner. Orion willingly opens its arms to outsiders—including customers, competitors, industry associations, universities and others—and openly shares its best practices and ideas for benchmarking, educational and public relations purposes. "We want to be open with our competitors and serve as an industry partner," Haynor says. "Many of our customers, for example, don't understand the skills, knowledge and competencies our production and support people need to posses. By opening up the brain trust to industry as well as to the general public, however, people are starting to understand how technically competent our people have to be. That, in turn, has helped our industry."

Sales:

Orion has never been known as a "box mover"; in our world, it's not about quantity but rather quality. Informative pre-sales conversations and demonstrative after-sales support are a signature of 20 years of excellence. A product may be found to be less expensive on the front end, but that may account for only 1/3 the actual cost of implementation. Having someone answer your telephone call and lead you through a critical situation, "priceless".
